Comment On The BoardFusion UI

BoardFusion (the project formerly known as CfOpenBB) is a "project is to create a world-class open-source web-based message board application written in ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML). BoardFusion will be extremely full-featured, easily skinnable, and fully i18n ready."

Matt Woodward is asking ColdFusion developers to take a look at the user interface preview for the to-be-released BoardFusion.

Does the world really need another bulletin board software? What's the advantage of BoardFusion over phpBB or vBulletin?

Stefan, many of us do not run PHP which both of the options you suggest require. That is not to say that there is anything wrong with PHP based system, but CF developers like software that runs under CF, just as .NET developers like web apps that run under ASP.NET, and so on. Or put differently, I do not have PHP installed on my server, and am unlikely to install it just for one software package when all my other web develoment is CF and Java based - I want a CF and/or Java solution.

I was curious as to what happened to the cfOpenBB project and am glad to see it transpired into something else. Keep up the good work guys. Look like you're off to a great start!

Very well said Ben. I want a CF version and I have been giving thought to converting phpBB to CF. I am happy to see this project move forward. I have also looked at the CF forum software that is available now. I like CFBB Forums by Andrew Deren and Rinium Forums by David Patton. I look forward to seeing the end result. And to Ben presonally, THANKS. You have been a big help to me.

I am personally grateful to Matt Woodward for breathing new life into cfOpenBB. My vision was to port phpBB to ColdFusion but internal squabbles over form versus function made the project impossible to move forward. Matt graciously agreed to take over the project under a new mission, not to port phpBB but to develop a world class CF message board from the ground up. Kudos to Matt for contributing to the open source movement.

So whatever happened to this project? Seems like it died before it started.

Its a shame this project died. I have been looking for a CF alternative to phpbb for a while
